Starting in 1990, the Land Bank began acquiring land in Wolfeboro's Back Bay through donations and purchases. Because the parcels were contiguous and close to downtown Wolfeboro, it was felt that acquisition of this land was crucial for suitable development in that part of town. By 1993 enough land had been acquired that the Land Bank decided to fund a planning charrette to determine the most appropriate use of the land.

The result of the charrette was that the best uses of the property were for a school, a mixed use neighborhood with a village center, a year round trail system and a substantial conservation area.

In 2000, The Taylor Community, a Laconia based non-profit organization, purchased 120 acres from the Land Bank to create an independent senior living community. Initially, 16 units were built, and phase two, consisting of an additional 20 units, is under construction. It has helped fill a much needed senior housing shortage.
